Feeling fidgety? Distracted? Can’t focus?
Try this. It’s worked for me!
Right now. Set aside 10 minutes for you. Set aside whatever device you’re using to read this. Wherever you are, scan each object in your immediate surroundings. The couch over there: color? texture? Food spots? How big? What shape?
What do you hear? Describe the texture of the sounds. Continue scanning in this way, including – especially including – your body, using ALL your senses.
What are you smelling, right now? Tasting? Feeling?
Continue your scan in this way for at least 10 minutes. No judgment. No stories. Just savor the moment. Stay present to what you’re perceiving right now.
Then come back here.
Did this exercise slow down your mind? Bring you back to your center?
Reflect for a moment on any other thought or feeling that comes up.
If this is even mildly pleasurable or satisfying, I invite you to make it a regular practice. You can do this anywhere! Waiting for the bus. Walking the dog. Doing a routine household chore.
Let me know what you discovered! I love hearing from you!
